With nitrates and phosphate bottoming out in February 2024, I figured I could try to use every last inch of my sump for frags and other macroalgae so I moved my fuge light and Caulerpa to a smaller section with more flow.
It just so happens that the ‘unused’ area is the first section for filter socks in my Waterbox sump. The second section is my actual cups and floss. This probably isn’t ideal because critters will get stuck on the floss and as the Caulerpa grows, it’ll block flow (but it does that no matter what area of the sump it’s in).
I was thinking that by removing caulerpa more frequently and having a bit of a smaller refugium my nutrients might get to where I want them. I will probably move the Caulerpa to the new decorative fuge area in time, but for now, it’s fun to try and maximize space in the sump.

Cleaned my filter cups for the first time since moving the refugium in front of them. One Brittle Star and a few big pods were in there, but nothing too bad. The floss also wasn’t as gross as I would have been expecting, but I think I did a mid-week change so that would explain it.
